Zeus

Peter Welgemoed aka Zeus, born in June 1978, gave up his enviable hardworking lifestyle on a South-African farm close to Johannesburg in order to fulfill his ambition to travel around the world for his desire to experience different lifestyles and experiences. Even though, for most people, a lifestyle which includes being a qualified pilot, skydiver and playing football (soccer) on a semi-professional level would be more than enough, however he still had that desire to go out into the world and make new discoveries and experiences.

Arriving in the early hours at London UK, almost penniless, he had to live rough for nearly a year until he finally got hooked in the London underground club-scene. Having been born in the late seventies, his informative years were influenced by the metal and punk era. After being inspired by several top UK underground trance dj’s like Mark Sinclair, Oberon and Beamish, he scraped all his pennies together and bought himself a second hand pair of Technics SL1210 MKII turntables. During this period Peter spent hours indoors practicing and gaining experience to become a good trance dj. After playing several small parties around the capital, his desire to move on and explore the world more took him to the capital city of Slovakia, Bratislava.

After arriving on a freezing cold winter’s day in the middle of a heavy snowstorm, he immediately fell in love with the country which resulted from a short stay to a much longer unintended stay. Whilst in the Slovak Republic, Peter met the like of Dj Yoshi, very well known for his unique style of scratching/mixing, which had a profound effect on his musical career in the future. Peter was introduced to several clubs which he enjoyed many good parties. What followed was a period of trips between the UK, South-Africa and Slovakia and eventually wound up to the Maltese Islands.

Valuable experience and contacts were made during his time on the Islands. Vary styles of dj’ing and playing to different international audiences, has given him more insight on how to pick a crowd up. After spending several months on the island, he finally moved back to the UK where his dj’ing career took off.

Once back in the UK and hearing amazing sets by top techno dj/producers like Dave the D.R.U.M.M.E.R, Geezer, Chris Liberator and Chris Liebing which plays a big influence in Peter taking on hard techno music as well and building on his stage name, ZEUS. Finding himself a job in a busy dj store based in central London, he got well settled in and met the right people in the music/party industry. He then decided to start his own club night called ROOTS, which brings you the best of hard trance/techno, psychedelic trance and chill out music. From here on, Zeus enjoyed many great parties and got introduced as one of antiworlds’ (www.antiworld.net) resident dj. After teaming up with his old friend from Slovakia, Dj/producer Yoshi, he helped Zeus setting up his own studio where they’ll be working on new music, producing everything from house, trance to techno.

The duo is currently working on a few projects and Zeus can be seen playing at many venues around the capital which includes Antiworld parties, etc, etc.
