They say "The Irish love to laugh & love to dance" & boy does Clodagh love to do both! Growing up in the heart of Ireland Athlone girl Clodagh was big into sport & Irish dancing. You couldn't get her off the dance floor at the local disco's & rock concerts! She became a Fitness Instructor in 1994 and so was constantly moving to music! But it wasn't until she moved to London in 1999 that Clodagh discovered the club scene when her sisters took her to some warehouse parties and then she thought "Wow, this is what I've been missing all my life!!!!" Clodagh was hooked on the music, the vibe, the atmosphere & just dancing her ass off all night long! She became a regular at the Pendragon Trance parties & the free party Techno scene! Clodagh often thought about Dj'in so 3 years later, after returning from travelling in 2001, her and her boyfriend at the time kept a promise they made, saved up & bought their first set of decks.
Two weeks later they threw their first house party & "SPIRITUALISED" was born which has always noted for its wicked decoration & amazingly friendly/fun atmosphere with the best trance & techno in the main room & house in the bar! Spiritualised still hold regular parties at the Fortress Studio's, Old St, London. Clodagh is very open minded when it comes to music, at the moment she is playing Trance, Techno & House, her favourite with a Techy Tribal flavour. But she's also getting into D'n'B & Breaks. Basically Clodagh loves anything that makes her move!
Some Dj's that have really inspired Clodagh over the years are.. Jeff Amadeus (Squat Records) just watch this guy on 3 decks!, Dj Marky (Brazilian D'n'B Dj) unbelievably entertaining fun dj! & of course the man himself Carl Cox, Clodagh says "this guy just radiates good energy! He's Wicked!"
In 2002 Clodagh won a Cyberdog Dj Competition, & 2003 was to see her biggest achievement to date, being chosen in the final 4 out of 300 for a 6 part docu-series called The Joy of Decks which was aired on ITV1 & 2 in November/December 2003. The idea of the show was to turn 4 up and coming Dj's into professional working DJ's. In the first show a shortlist of 8 Dj's played infront of the 4 mentors Mr.C, Roni Size, Sister Bliss & Tom Middleton. Each Mentor chose one person as their apprentice and Sister Bliss picked Clodagh! As part of the show she got to play at Bora Bora in Ibiza, Turnmills (The Gallery) in London, Foundaton (Shindig) in New Castle & Nation in Liverpool. She also made her first track in a studio, "Oiche Mhaith (Good Night)" an Irish Tribal House track. Clodagh also got Dj lessons from James Zabiela (no.11 dj in the top 100 Dj's), but the highlight for Clodagh was getting emails from Misstress Barbara & the man himself Carl Cox giving her advice for the final!! The final was held in Liverpool at Nation, Clodagh played to over 1,000 people! She achieved her goal of scratching, playing 3 decks, using samples on a cdj & effects all in the one set. Although she didn't win it was an amazing experience & achievement as she's only been Dj'in 2 years!!! Check out www.thejoyofdecks.tv for more inforamtion.
So where to next??
Clodagh is really excited about the future, there's
so much she wants to learn. To begin with she's started a music production
course in Jan 2004 and she wants to keep working on 3 decks, adding cdj's
& effects units, basically trying to keep her sets as interesting &
creative as possible! Clodagh wants to play all over the world especially
in Ireland, South America & Eastern Europe! Clodagh thinks a Dj should
be an entertainer, letting their personalities come through their music
& having only one thing in mind & that is to rock the crowd! Making
people dance & have a lot of fun! Clodagh has been quoted as saying
"dj's should leave their attitudes & miserable faces at home
it's a party for gods sake! Let's have some fun!!!" Yep, the future
looks bright! Clodagh has played along side Sister Bliss, Mr.C, Roni Size,
Tom Middleton, Hernan Cattaneo, Tall Paul, Stanton Warriors & Express
